5/17/2017 0 Comments May 17th, 2017"True and lasting self-care. Taking good care of yourself is part of your life purpose, so that you have enough energy and enthusiasm to take action on your divine guidance. Self-care measures such as getting enough sleep, exercise, healthful food, and abstaining from toxins are important. And yet . . . everything in balance. When I was a psychotherapist specializing in treating eating disorders, I had a few clients who were obsessed with self-care, to the point where exercise, and worrying about food choices, were an addiction. They'd spend all day in the gym and neglect the rest of their lives, and they'd suffer from burn-out, mood and energy swings, injuries and health challenges as a result. So we'd focus upon caring for their spiritual, emotional, and intellectual self, too. And having this balance would give them the true and lasting happiness they craved. For example: For intellectual self-care: Strive to learn something new each day. Watch educational programs, take classes, read instructive books, listen to teaching audios. For emotional self-care: Develop and nurture friendships with like-minded and supportive people. Keep your promises to yourself, and forgive yourself and others so that you aren't carrying around old negativity. Get counseling or join a support group if you struggle with addictions. For spiritual self-care: Pray, pray, pray. Love God with all of your heart, mind, and soul. Read the Bible and attend a supportive church. Volunteer and help others in need. Create quiet time to listen. And please be discerning about who you hang out with, who you pray to, and what you watch or listen to. Follow God's lead always. Here's a helpful prayer: Dear God, I love you so much! Thank you for guiding and supporting my choices, actions, and decisions in how best to care for myself. I ask for your help in increasing my motivation and confidence in taking care of myself."
